Event Details
For our August meeting, participants should take an existing poem, and using only the words in that piece – write a new poem. While you are not required to use all the words from the existing poem, you can only use the words you see once, and you cannot add any of your own words to the new poem. You will use the boundaries of the original poem to create a brand-new poem that is entirely your own.
Please also bring several copies of the original poem and your own poem to share with the other participants, so we can workshop the writing together.
If you are feeling particularly creative, please write a second poem about an inanimate object. As an example, please see “On the Sadness of Wedding Dresses” by James Galvin.
As always, participants are encouraged to bring examples of poetry they enjoy to share with the group.
We’re looking forward to seeing you in August!
