On Christmas Eve in Iceland, it is a long-standing tradition for people to give and receive books. Then they spend the rest of the night cozily curled up with a cup of cocoa and their new book. Mt Lebanon Library loves this charming custom, so we named our holiday festival after it: Jolabokaflod, which translates to "Christmas Book Flood.”

Jolabokaflod – Saturday, November 23, 10am-3pm

On Saturday, November 23rd the entire library will be transformed into a winter wonderland of crafts, music, treats, merchandise, and, of course, books!

The Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library will hold their annual Holiday Book Sale in the lower level. Book Cellar volunteers set aside quality “gift worthy,” items for this sale all year long. Shoppers will find all genres —from cookbooks and coffee table books to fiction and biographies. In addition to the wonderful book selection there will be a variety of small giftables, including library-branded merchandise. The Library will be selling library-branded giftables and soft pretzels in Room B.

Outside in the library parking lot, local artists and crafters will sell unique handmade goods, including paper art, felted items, pottery, and more. This year the Roaming Bean will be parked outside selling specialty hot cocoa, coffee drinks, and goodies.

Upstairs, in the library, patrons can enjoy the festive music of the Celtic Trio (12pm) and folk singer/songwriter Liz McBride (1:30pm). The children's storytime room will be transformed into a winter wonderland for our family Nordic Storytelling event (11am, please register).

Additionally, in the Learning Lab, there will be family friendly craft-making and seasonal activities (12-2pm). Including a special Yule Cat lamp craft for ages 9 and up!
