Join our friends from Manchester Craftsman's Guild Jazz for an evening of jazz and jazz culture. This evening we will be joined by Tom Wendt who will present on the history of jazz drummers in Pittsburgh!
Pittsburgh has produced not only some of the greatest musicians in Jazz but some of its most essential innovators, as well. This event will focus on some of the city's great drummers and how they contributed to the development of both the music and the instrument. Both performance and recordings will highlight the legacy of Masters such as Kenny Clarke, Joe Harris, Art Blakey, J.C. Moses and others.
Tom Wendt is an adjunct professor of Jazz Percussion at Duquesne University. Since 1998 he has been on the faculty at the Afro-American Music Institute in Homewood. Playing the drums professionally since the age of 14, Wendt is a graduate of The Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and has studied with master drummers Roger Humphries, Joe Harris, and Kenny Washington.
