Nationally recognized artist James Sulkowski returns to Mt Lebanon Public Library to discuss the history of fine art and his classical approach as a painter. After his presentation, James will answer questions from patrons.

James Sulkowski is a classical artist in the tradition of the Masters. He draws his influence and approach to painting from the ancient Greek works of Phidias and the Parthenon, through the Renaissance masterworks of Michelangelo and Leonardo, to the great 17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings of Rembrandt and Rubens.

The foundation of Classical Art, in this sense, is based on the depiction and interpretation of Nature with the human figure as the primary focus and highest form of art.

Join James for an engaging look into the seven elements that are essential in Classical drawing and painting. He'll share his interest in the properties of oil painting and discuss the techniques he uses to prepare his oils and varnishes.

No registration required. Meeting Room A.
