THE CATCHER IN THE RYE and REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE: Growing Up in the 1950s
For seventy years, two coming of age stories have enjoyed enormous popularity and remain relevant today. J.D. Salinger published THE CATCHER IN THE RYE in 1951. REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, directed by Nicholas Ray and starring James Dean, premiered in 1955. Both the novel and the film address societal issues as troubled teens negotiate their way into an unfamiliar world.
Join Connie Booth and Elaine Wertheim for a two week exploration of the novel and the film.
Connie Booth is a retired English teacher, who specializes in American literature.
Elaine Wertheim teaches art history and film studies throughout the community.
